Minimizing Car Repairs

These simple steps can make it possible to keep your autos running smoothly and keep your routine from being thrown off pace. So let’s get started.

  • Check the lights and wipers periodically to ensure they are working properly, After all, you need to see and be seen.
  • At least once a year, have the brakes inspected so you can know they are working correctly. A mechanic can tell you when it is time to replace the brake shoes, or make any other adjustments that will make it safer and easier for you to be able to stop.
  • Check the tires for any wear. Use a penny, and if the tread is lower than the top of Lincoln’s head, you need to plan in new tires. And speaking of tires, be sure that they have the proper amount of air pressure. If they don’t, refill them. If it becomes a continuous problem, talk to a mechanic.
  • Check and change the oil as per manufacturer’s instructions. Yu will also want to replace the filter, so that the oil is cleaner and thus helps the vehicle run more smoothly.
  • At least once a year, flush out the coolant system with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. This will prevent any build up or corrosion.
  • Change out the transmission and differential oils from time to time so that the engine can run more smoothly, and with less stress.
  • Keep all moving parts properly lubricated, as this helps prolong their life and cause the vehicle to work better.
  • Inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals. Wheel bearings and grease are inexpensive compared to spindle and hub replacement, or liberated wheels rolling down the road ahead of you.
